Through Seeds for the Sol Strategic Planning process the institution identified four strategic priorities for the upcoming years. These priorities work together to advance our mission, deepen community partnerships, and prepare Seeds for the Sol for long-term, sustainable impact.
Seeds for the Sol was founded on the belief that access to clean energy and energy efficiency should not depend on income level. Through partnerships, community-based outreach, and innovative financing tools such as the Bridge Fund, SFTS removes financial and structural barriers that prevent income-qualified households from accessing energy-saving upgrades. By expanding no-cost energy efficiency measures and simplifying access to incentives, SFTS helps reduce energy burdens, improve home comfort and safety, and ensure that historically underserved communities can fully participate in Oregon’s clean energy transition.
Over the past decade, Seeds for the Sol has developed a proven community-based model that combines flexible financing, trusted partnerships, and technical support to accelerate equitable clean energy adoption. SFTS now seeks to replicate this model in additional Oregon communities by partnering with local organizations and stakeholders to adapt and implement bridge-funding strategies that meet regional needs. By sharing knowledge, systems, and operational experience, SFTS aims to expand statewide impact while empowering local partners to build long-term community capacity.
Many middle-income households earn too much to qualify for assistance programs but still struggle to afford renewable energy and energy efficiency upgrades. Seeds for the Sol addresses this gap through its Pay As You Save (PAYS) GAP Fund, which provides accessible, low-interest financing designed around projected energy savings. By helping households overcome upfront cost barriers, SFTS expands access to heat pumps, weatherization, solar energy, and other high-impact upgrades that lower utility costs, increase resilience, and support long-term environmental sustainability.
Seeds for the Sol recognizes that an equitable energy transition depends on a strong regional workforce and a healthy network of contractors and industry partners. By stabilizing project pipelines, reducing administrative barriers for Trade Allies, and supporting participation in income-qualified programs, SFTS helps strengthen Oregon’s renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. The organization also seeks to expand workforce development opportunities in partnership with educational institutions, contractors, and community organizations to address shortages of skilled energy professionals while creating pathways to quality local jobs.
